Christmas is a time for remembering, a time when we are poignantly aware of the absence of those we have loved. Embracing warm memories during this season can bring comfort as well as the knowledge that our loved one would want us to carry on.
Every Christmas all families served by Beckett-Glaves are invited to gather inside the chapel at Beckett-Glaves Funeral Centre to attend our "Candles of Love" evening ceremony. We encourage families and friends to participate in the lightning of a candle in the memory of a loved one, followed by a Service of Remembrance and a reception in the Magnolia Wing of our funeral home.
Let There Be Light
The idea came from a Candles Of Love ceremony held at a funeral home in Colorado. In Colorado the facilities are at the base of a mountain. On Christmas Eve, they light 5000 candles and place them up the side of the mountain. You can imagine how beautiful it is!
At our Beckett-Glaves ceremony, we have room for about 500 candles. Still, the light is no less glorious. Each family is given a candle to light in the memory of their loved one during the holiday season.
This year, our Candles of Love service will be held on Sunday, December 8th. Candle lighting will begin in the chapel at 1:45 p.m. followed by a service at 2:00 p.m..
